![]() My recent 4-day Discovery Cruise on the Carnival Firenze went from Long Beach to Catalina Island to Ensenada and back to Long Beach. Now, anyone who’s ever lived or visited Southern California knows that it takes about a 1 hour ferry ride to Catalina Island, and to drive from Long Beach to Ensenada takes about 3 ½ hours. So, what took us so long?! Enter stage right – The Cruise Maps! I’m not trying to turn this post into an advert, I really just wanted to let you know about this cool memento you can get after you go on your Discovery Cruise! Really! (Although, true disclosure, I am an Affiliate with The Cruise Maps.)
Once you’ve returned from your Discovery Cruise, you can order a map of where your ship actually went! How cool is that! It’s all got to do with ship navigation technology. The progress of every(!) ship in the world is tracked and sent back to databases, which is used for a lot of industry purposes, but can also be used to make ultra high-resolution maps of where your Discovery Cruise actually went. I must confess though, after seeing how much we went around in circles on the Firenze, that I question the carbon footprint of that cruise! Why could we not have just staying in one place at sea instead of tootling around – what an incredible waste of fuel! (See photo above.) Not only can you get a map of your recent Discovery Cruise, but if you’ve cruised before then you can get maps of any cruises you’ve taken since 2015. (There’s some talk of possibly making maps available before those dates, but they will be more about where the ship was scheduled to go. Why? Simply because this navigation technology didn’t exist then. But, don’t quote me on that(!). I’ll let you know if it happens, though.) You can also get a very cool digital 3-D globe that maps all of your cruises too! Anyway, I just wanted to share this cool Discovery Cruise memento idea with you. If you do want to order your own map, you can do so at https://thecruisemaps.com/ and be sure to use the discount code CRUISETECHIES, and you’ll get 10% off! Please Like and Comment – I’d love to hear about your cruise itineraries too! Thanks! Want to learn more? Check out the Starboard Spotlight monthly newsletter.
