Ahoy there! I’m heading out to Mexico on the Carnival Firenze in a couple of days! I’m looking forward to bringing you a boatload of blog posts about the theatres and the venues on board! I’ll be leaving snowy 20degF weather and arriving to sunny20+degC – how crazy is that! But, as bad timing would have it, my laptop suddenly refused to charge a couple of days ago. I took it in, and, of course, it’s going to take several days to repair, and won’t be back before I leave. Luckily I have my Emergency Backup Laptop (if I can get Chester, my land-lubber cat, to let me use it!). But, I’m only able to access my email and websites - all of my documents (including my intended blog post for today) are held hostage. (I know, I know, back-up, back-up. Lesson learned!) Here’s a random tip for you solo travelers… if you’re not traveling on Norwegian Cruise Lines, which has an awesome program for solo travelers...and you’re having to pay the Single Supplement most cruise lines demand…

Hello fellow Cruise Techies! Or are you? It’s been brought to my attention that some people object to the term “techie” in my company name, saying it can seem derogatory and unprofessional. Others have said they find it catchy and fun. I just chose the name for my company because I thought it ‘scanned’ well (to borrow a technique from our actor friends). I’m always open to other suggestions for a company name – one that portrays cruise ships AND tech theatre. Please let me know your thoughts! Please Like and Comment – I’d love to hear your ideas! I know in my post at the end of the last school year I said I would start blogging again once summer has ended, but I just wanted to let you all know that I won’t be posting until mid-October. This summer ended up being a bit more stressful than I’d anticipated, starting, sadly, with my mother’s passing, but ending on a better note with buying a new home in a Rocky Mountains foothills town, just south of Boulder. Both, along with a few other life-events, have been taking up a lot of my time and energy as you can imagine. (Photo is a view of my backyard – definitely a way from the ocean!) In any case, better times are on the horizon! I’ll be taking a cruise on the Utopia of the Seas in early October, and I have arranged to interview some theatre crew - and also hopefully a “cruise-tuber” who is currently on board! - and then I’ll be bringing you lots more posts about what it’s like to work on a shipboard theatre! So please hang in there, I’ll be back sometime around mid-October! Please Like and Comment – I’d love to hear from you! Thanks! Curious about working on a cruise ship? They are state-of-the-art hospital ships that are staffed by volunteers, that travel around the world providing life-changing surgeries to children and families who are in dire need of medical care but don’t have the resources available to them. Check them out at https://www.mercyships.org/
Have you heard of Emma Cruises? Hopefully you have, in one of my prior blog posts. Well, she has a cat called Hudson – wait, this is related! Long story, but, she also has a mascot toy cat called Captain Hudson. Each year she comes out with a new version of Captain Hudson, which people then take on cruise ships with them. You can see all the places Captain Hudson has been here: https://captainhudsonmap.com/ In any case, back to the Mercy Ships connection…. Whether you’ve been on a cruise ship or not, you’ve likely seen adverts for all of the spectacular shows that they offer. Which means…they have theatres. Which means…those theatres need to be staffed by theatre technicians. Which means… cruise lines are always on the lookout to hire good techies. Which means... the cruise industry is a great career option for you! You get to travel the world while doing a job you love!
