SIZES OF CRUISE SHIPS

​Have you ever wondered what the difference is between all of the cruise ships?   It won’t necessarily make a difference to your work in the theatre, but it’s good to have an understanding of the size. classifications of the ships. 
​Here’s a sampling:

CONTEMPORARY
Most of these ships are large.
More activities available for passengers.
Staff to guest ratio, around 1:3
       Carnival
       Costa
        MSC
       Norwegian
       Royal Caribbean
 
PREMIUM
These ships are mid-size to large.
One or two formal nights.
Staff to guest ratio around 1:2/2.5
     Celebrity Cruises
     Disney
     Holland America Line
     Princess
 
DELUXE/LUXURY
Medium size ships, but cabins larger than normal, likely outside with verandas.
Highest level of service and food quality.
Staff to guest ratio varies from 1:1 to 1.5

RIVER
Smaller ships.
High level of service, but fewer on board activities.
