Did you know, just like any employment situation, crew on cruise ships have certain employee rights. The organization that oversees your rights is the ILO – the International Labour Organization – with the “Seafarer’s Bill of Rights”. The Seafarer’s Bill of Rights include polices such as:
Work hours Pay rates Time off Onboard medical care Accommodation and food Accident prevention And so on… For instance: Your hours of work shall not exceed 14 hours in any 24-hour period and 72 hours in any seven-day period. Your hours of rest shall not be less than 10 hours in any 24-hour period and 77 hours in any seven-day period.
